de Gournay is pleased to present its new Los Angeles residence, a beautifully appointed pied-à-terre for the Cecil Gurney family nestled within the Hollywood Hills. Dressed in the very finest of de Gournay’s hand-painted wallpapers and hand-embroidered fabrics, the interiors, fully realised by de Gournay’s own design team, brilliantly reflect a contemporary Southern Californian aesthetic while exemplifying the best of the company’s current decorative repertoire. Akin to a living portfolio, the residence will be open by appointment to select clients, inviting guests to be immersed within the enchanting world of de Gournay.

Over eleven distinct rooms, the story of de Gournay’s unique artistic vision and technical mastery comes to life in eye-catching detail. Within the elegant living room, the hand-painted ‘Nordic Garden’ wallpaper, designed in collaboration with designer Michael S. Smith, welcomes the outdoors in via a rustic chinoiserie with a markedly Scandinavian character. The wallpaper is complemented by a new ceiling design, ‘Arbour’, that further extends the delicately trailing vines and leafy foliage upon an overhanging trellis. A handcrafted rattan day bed by Atelier Vime clad in a Jasper fabric mingles with a refined curation of vintage and antique pieces throughout the room.

The dining room features a striking rendition of ‘Mughal Trees’, a wall upholstery introduced as part of de Gournay’s recent design anthology, the Mughal Collection. ‘Mughal Trees’ is a depiction of lush greenery - palm, blossom, cypress, and banyan - entirely embroidered by hand using assorted raffia threads, beading, and appliqué. Overhead hangs a new hand-embroidered ceiling of songbirds in flight encircling a radiant sun, aptly named ‘Dawn Chorus’, while underfoot lies a vintage flat woven rug and hemp floor covering by Sinclair Till.

Situated within a decorative trellis, a delightful group of Californian flora and fauna – from charming hedgehogs to mallard ducks, herons, and storks – gathers amidst grape vines, pomegranate, and oleander. The new hand-painted ‘Medici’ wallpaper envelops the walls and ceiling of the ground floor powder room, handsomely outfitted with bath fittings and fixtures by Lefroy Brooks.

Two distinctly papered bedrooms are presented upstairs, including ‘Malmaison’, a new hand-painted panoramic wallpaper named after Josephine Bonaparte’s famed residence. Referencing the watercolour paintings of Malmaison’s gardens by Auguste Garneray, this dreamy design depicts a verdant woodland dotted with romantic follies and swan-filled ponds.

In the second bedroom, a new colourway of de Gournay’s iconic ‘Erdem’ design, hand-painted upon a crisp white Williamsburg ground, achieves new levels of splendour.
First introduced in collaboration with Erdem Moralioglu – a fashion designer feted for a signature expression of halcyon romance - ‘Erdem’ is a riotous depiction of nature in full bloom, complete with hand-embroidered accents that add further luminosity to the kaleidoscopic colour palette.

In a remarkable ode to the Art Deco era, the striking ‘Namban’ design is on view within the study. Evoking the artwork of Jean Dunand, this wallpaper is exquisitely illustrated in three-dimensional gold leaf that is then tarnished and burnished to create the impression of light breaking through the clouds to the seascape below.

Paired with a graphic array of handcrafted cement tiles by Clé Tile, the adjoining bathroom is papered with ‘Etienne’, a hand-painted and hand-embroidered design of monkeys amidst a canopy of palm fronds on a vibrant yellow dyed silk.
Throughout the residence, a new collection of hand-embroidered voile fabrics, seen on the bespoke window treatments expertly fabricated by The Shade Store, is on display.

Designed to complement their adjacent wallcoverings, each voile has been intricately hand-stitched and hand-appliquéd with various flora and fauna upon a linen silk ground.
