Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing

We had the pleasure of creating an immersive afternoon tea with Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing, in which we transformed the Maple Lounge into a dreamlike scene in which to experience art, nature, and gastronomy. The event featured our hand-painted wall coverings and porcelain, setting an elegant mood for the hotel’s exquisite afternoon tea offerings.

Drawing on the charm and rich history of the Mandarin Oriental’s traditional architecture, we created ‘Qianmen Garden’ — a hand-painted interpretation of the beauty of the hotel’s surrounding landscape, where magnolia, pomegranate, crepe myrtle, and elegant birds in flight create a poetic tableau.

This bespoke design was used to create paravent screens which showcase the delicate brushstrokes and soft hues of the chinoiserie, thoughtfully complimenting the afternoon tea table settings.

An enchanting display of one of our latest designs, ‘Pietra Dura’, framed as folding screens, brings an opulent display of colour to the Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing. Depicting brightly plumed birds and bouquets of lush blooms, the hand-painted design references intricate works of richly patterned stone which enraptured the Florentine courts of the 16th and 17th centuries.

Vivid luxuriance continues throughout the space, within sofas made in collaboration with Chinese furniture brand Artempo, reupholstered in our own velvet, complimented by a rug by Changphel.
