Depicting an imagined landscape envisaged in reference to the historic splendour of the Silk Road, designer Vikram Goyal’s ‘Garden of Life’ design installed as a series of single wall-mounted panels creates a majestic backdrop to a new series of his repoussé metal vases.
We have created this design with a bas relief technique on gold gilded paper; the embossed outlines of each pictorial element are further illuminated against a rich, plum-coloured cotton velvet spanning the ceiling and walls.
Filled with flora and fauna of the Middle East and Asia, the motif composes olives, date palms, falcons, Arabian oryxes, pomegranate, India champa and sakura trees, alongside dragons, phoenixes, peacocks, parrots, and tigers. The ‘Garden of Life’ is an arresting, contemporary take on the epic journeys of the people, objects, and ideas that have shaped the history of the world.
