– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –
Inspired by a costume worn by Fyodor Chaliapian in the opera Boris Godunov, staged by ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev in 1908. The ornately embroidered coat was originally designed by Alexander Golovin for the dramatic Coronation scene where, Boris is declared Tsar of Russia against his better judgment. Our design depicts swirling pomegranate trees in full fruit, with birds perched upon its twisting branches, hand embroidered using appliqué, beading and metal threads.
