The ‘Hundred Bird’ design is a well known Kangxi regin (1662 - 1722) motif featuring a scene of phoenix birds, peacocks, peahens, kingfishers and numerous other small birds in flight amongst a landscape of trees, grasses and rocks. This bowl by degournay is made to the smae thinly potted shape with a flared rim and by the same technique as the original Jingdzhen ware in Wucai enamel decoration. Whilst Wucai literally means 5 colours, the reality was that mostly three colours, red geen and yellow we used with outlines in blackish dry cobalt and some underglaze blue making up the total.
