A PAIR OF 11” WHITE DOGS

Although many models of dogs and hounds exist amongst Chinese Export porcelain, biscuit models of unglazed dogs, such as the Qianlong period antique models de Gournay employed for these, are extremely rare. Seated on their haunches with their tails curled against the side of one leg, well modelled with clearly delineated spine and ribs. Their heads poised with lively black eyes and long snouts turned slightly to the left and right, each wearing a red and gilt collar suspending a gilt decorated model of bell. The bodies left all unglazed with the biscuit antiqued to contrast the relief in the craving.
