A PAIR OF 13.5” LADIES
de Gournay’s Famille Verte Ladies are modelled in considerable detail as an opposed pair standing on square plinths and holding decorated baluster vases with one arm. The hands are shown with delicate outstretched fingers and each lady wears a finely worked tunic over an underdress, from which one slippered foot emerges. The faces carry an enigmatic smile, pierced ears and with hair drawn tightly back into a top knot bun. The pair closely follow an 18th century antique model circa 1770-1790.
