A PAIR OF 31” PHEASANTS

de Gournay’s magnificent massive pheasants reproduce Qianlong period originals date to approximately 1780. The pair is modelled looking to the left and right perched astride pierced blue, green and lavender glazed rockwork issuing iron-red lingzhi fungi, each with one foot raised, long tails, sharply hooked beaks and prominent eyes. Richly decorated in enamel and gilt with an iron-red body, upturned comb, polychrome neck, wing and tail feathers atop yellow feet with fine black scale detailing.
