ALCHEMY

Alchemy is a unique 21st Century dinner service. Designed by Jeffrey Bilhuber with a brief from de Gournay to create something magical, exceptional and innovative using the hand crafted skills de Gournay is famous for and drawing on historical design references, Alchemy is a triumph of contemporary creative design. de Gournay makes each Alchemy piece by hand from start to finish in a process that takes up to 40 man-hours per item. The hard paste porcelain shapes are hand made using multiple stages of turning, carving and moulding then are glazed by hand for a blanc de chine finish before being fired to give a light ‘orange peel’ texture which gives life to the glaze. The polychrome and gilt surface design is hand painted by de Gournay craftspeople using brushes and fine European enamels in patterns that are uniquely designed for each piece. The pattern is different across the 12 pieces in each shape and changes between different shapes and sizes whilst remaining artfully coordinated. This variety makes using the service a constant visual joy and the path through the dinner courses a beautiful and fascinating journey.

de Gournay offers an array of handmade porcelain dinner service shapes ranging from dinner plates to serving platters, punch bowls, teapots and tureens. Designed for all styles of dining, the collection includes both round and octagonal plate shapes.
