JAPANESE IMARI
A pair of fine Gu-Shaped Chinese Octagonal Beaker vases reproduced by de Gournay following an early 18th Century Kangxi original (circa 1720), with scenes painted in a mixture of underglaze blue and over glaze onto the flat flared upper and lower panels, showing mountainous landscapes, pagodas, pavilions and birds in flight. Amidst flowering peony, lotus & chrysanthemum plants all reserved on detailed flower-head ground. The flat central octagonal panels with an iron-red geometric ground, bordered with bands of key-fret and inset with petal shaped floral cartouches.
