POMPADOUR

Richly decorated with peonies, leaves and pomegranates in a polychrome famille rose palette, this dinner service reproduces a circa 1745 Qianlong Chinese Export pattern known as the ‘Pompadour Service’. Four outer cartouches alternate between emblems of a crowned eagle and a fish - symbols said to represent King Louis XV and his mistress, Madame de Pompadour, whose maiden name was Poisson. Whether conceived as satire or tribute, the design endures as a charming enigma of 18th-century taste.

de Gournay offers an array of handmade porcelain dinner service shapes ranging from dinner plates to serving platters, punch bowls, teapots and tureens. Designed for all styles of dining, the collection includes both round and octagonal plate shapes.
