PSEUDO TOBACCO LEAF
de Gournay’s Pseudo Tobacco Lafe vase is typical of late 18th century chinaware made specificallly for export to the west during Qianlong period. The flamboyant decoration uses stylised sliced pomegranates and hibiscuses amidst saw-edged leafytendrils is a characteristic chocolate brown, pale green, straw yellow, iron red and pick polychrome palette in a faithful reproduction of the original antique. Popular in the period and still a favourite today, it lends itself well to reinterpretation by clients through de Gournay’s specialty of customising patterns and colours.
