STAFFORD
de Gournay's Stafford dinner service is a handsome design typical of early to mid 18th century Chinese Export porcelain. The outer rim is decorated in cobalt blue & gilt scrolling vines, leaves and flowers inside a solid gilt band, the well with a very finely worked rouge de fer & gilt diaper pattern, the four lozenges containing traditional scholar's studio implements finished inside with a spearhead gilt band. A service in this is documented as having been made for Mr. Mathew and Mr. Richard Howard, merchants in tbe China trade in London circa 1723. de Gournay shows the pattern here with an elegant monogram in a later style used in a recent tailored client service.
de Gournay offers an array of handmade porcelain dinner service shapes ranging from dinner plates to serving platters, punch bowls, teapots and tureens. Designed for all styles of dining, the collection includes both round and octagonal plate shapes.
