TOBACCO LEAF

The Tobacco Leaf pattern encompasses a whole family of mid 18th century and later Chinese Export patterns which used variations of the same design elements. de Gournay has chosen one of the more finely detailed period variations and have reproduced this as accurately as the limitations of contemporary lead free glazes allow. The design shows the characteristic serrated leaves of the flowering tobacco plant mixed with cut pomegranate and a profusion of other blooms hidden amongst which can be found phoenix birds and squirrels. This design uses a huge number of different colours topped off with 22ct gold and is famously complex to manufacture.
