Beata Heuman - New York Residency
This winter, de Gournay welcomes London-based designer Beata Heuman for a takeover of its Upper East Side showroom. For the first time in New York, two rooms will be transformed into an immersive Beata Heuman interior, filled with furniture, lighting and homewares from her celebrated Shoppa collection.
The pop-up marks the launch of a pair of new wallpaper designs created between the two brands: Fruit Garden, a hand-painted scene inspired by the motif within the dining room of Heuman’s Swedish countryside home. Depicting fruit trees in blossom, alive with birdsong, and rising from a meadow of wildflowers, the design captures the joy and abundance of summer. Delft Folly is a diamond-pane pattern evoking classic Delft tiles in a vivid blue & white palette that will span the ceiling.
Alongside the wallpaper, visitors will discover exclusive porcelain pieces crafted by de Gournay, including a candlestick and vide-poche designed in collaboration with Heuman, and a playful reimagining of the company’s classic ‘Goose’ tureen.
The installation offers a rare opportunity to experience Heuman’s distinctive mix of imaginative proportions, vibrant colours and characterful details within the artistry of de Gournay’s hand-painted and embroidered wallcoverings.
Originally from Sweden, Beata Heuman is a London-based interior designer making waves in the design world since founding her own practice in 2013. Her work is thoughtful, creative and full of nostalgia, making her popular with an imaginative audience and establishing “a well-deserved reputation for homes filled with whimsical, personal details” (British Vogue). Her bestselling book Every Room Should Sing was celebrated for its enthusiastic approach to interiors and helped to propel her Shoppa collection of original homewares and furnishings into homes around the world.
Over the years, Beata has received numerous accolades and is now a fixture on all major lists of the world’s most talented interior designers, with Architectural Digest calling her the “It girl of the AD 100” and Forbes singling her out as “One of the most sought-after interior designers in Britain”.
de Gournay’s porcelain collection is shaped and painted entirely by hand using centuries-old traditions — combining artistry, patience and enduring beauty. Each piece to be treasured as a small work of art, it preserves an ancient craft that continues to flourish today.
