– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –

Created in collaboration with David/Nicolas, ‘Waltz’ is is a hand-embroidered continuation of the duo’s previous de Gournay collaboration ‘Glyph’, whose graphic motifs recall ancient wall markings. Composed of countless, hand-embroidered lines that never intersect, the pattern unfolds with measured precision: each stroke following another at a constant distance in a silent choreography across an interior. An array of hand-embroidery techniques is employed, including ‘stumpwork’ that creates subtle raised effects, alongside silk and raffia threads, with fine touches of metallic thread that catch the light. Cord couching traces soft, continuous pathways across the surface, with fine stitches and subtle glints of glass beads holding each line in place. Padded applications introduce a gentle, sculptural relief, while interlaced raffia brings moments of texture and quiet movement. Variations of stitch — from herringbone to zig-zag — create a shifting linear rhythm, moving between flat and softly raised surfaces.
