de Gournay’s hand gilded wallcoverings can bring light, reflections and depth into spaces. These wallcoverings are created by applying semi-precious and precious metal leaf by hand onto a variety of different bases, including smooth European paper, handmade Chinese rice paper (“xuan”), ‘block effect’ India tea paper and silk. Each base offers a different texture creating a variety of surface effects and levels of reflection. Gilded wallcoverings are considered robust and durable. The surfaces can be glazed to the level required for a particular end use, to control tarnishing and to facilitate handling. Gilded wallcoverings are sold by the panel; each panel is 915 mm wide (3ft). The gilded tea paper and gilded silk bases are available in widths up to 1.22 m (4ft). Panels are available in standard lengths up to 4.6 m (15ft).
