Le Brésil
Amarelo on Sepia scenic paper
– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –
This is a reproduction of Joseph Fuchs’ design first published in 1862 for Desfossé, Paris, on wood block printed paper. The design, depicting elaborate birds and exotically lush foliage in Brazil’s coastal mangroves forests proved popular. It was reissued three times, most recently in 1905. Fuchs drew inspiration from the work of Johann Moritz Rugendas, published between 1827 and 1835 after the latter’s extensive travels through South America.
