Cranes Scroll
Original colourway on Rose Shadow metallic silk
– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –
Cranes Scroll depicts a flock of elegant cranes flying through a clear sky, although full of effervescent movement the design remains wonderfully serene. The brush-strokes are kept simple while the shape of the cranes is poetic. Inspired by a scroll painting by famed 16th century Japanese artist Tawaraya Sotatsu and calligrapher Hon’ami Kōetsu, because of the role Cranes play in Japanese culture the energetic depiction of birds was seen as a celebration of the friendship between the two artists.
