Kiso Mountains
Original colourway on Statue India tea paper
– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –
An expressive rendition of rolling green hills, filled with swathes of cherry blossom in full flower. Based on a set of 18th century screens by Watanabe Shiko, a Japanese painter of the Rinpa school. The design depicts Mount Yoshino, a sacred site renowned for having thousands of Sakura flowering cherry trees. The Green hills are rendered in a large soft brush, with the colour fading smoothly from light to dark, contrasting with the delicate brushwork of the white blossoms that almost appear to glow.
