Abstract Pines
Original colourway on Stone Ochre dyed silk
– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –
A grove of pine trees shrouded in mist; the minimal aesthetic of this serene landscape is often associated with Japanese Zen. Based on a famous set of screens painted in the late 16th century by Japanese artist Hasegawa Tōhaku, founder of the Hasegawa school of Japanese art and one of the greatest painters of this period. Despite its simplistic appearance, a wonderful feeling of depth is created through skilled brushwork and the rhythmic tilting of the trees suggesting a rough mountain terrain.
