Original colourway on Bleached Silver slub silk with embroidery

– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –

Inspired by 18th century Edo period folding screens, towering obana grasses span the scene, complete with delicate feathery ‘tail heads’ dancing in a gentle breeze. The background is first painted with a layer of misty washes to lend depth, the grass leaves and stems in the foreground are painted more opaquely, while the grasses further away are more translucent. The whole effect creates a light and airy design that delivers a simpler version of nature into a space.
