Based upon the wonderfully naïve jungle paintings of French post impressionist painter Henri Rousseau. Having never left France, Rousseau’s depictions of exotic landscapes were entirely imaginary, based upon illustrations from Children’s books, first-hand accounts from survivors of the French expedition to Mexico, and his frequent visits to the Botanical gardens in Paris. de Gournay’s interpretation has retained the dream like quality of Rousseau’s self-taught painting style, with oversized foliage, and an array of subtropical animals including a sloth, a baby tapir, jaguars, and an armadillo.
