Telemachus
Sepia on antique scenic Xuan paper
– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –
Telemachus is a reproduction of Paysage de Télémaque dans l’Ile de Calypso published in 1818 by Dufour, Paris. The mural records the adventures of Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, who upon coming of age sets out to find his missing father who failed to return home 20 years after the Trojan war. The neoclassical scene takes place on the island of Calypso: a landscape of pines, fir trees, and poplars where Greek mythological figures such as Athena, Venus, and Demeter enact events from Homer’s Odyssey.
