Early Views of India

Paille on Terre Foncée scenic paper

– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –

This design is based upon a set of hand coloured aquatints by Royal Academician Thomas Daniell and his nephew William Daniell, who spent 9 years in India in the late 18th Century before returning to Britain to publish them. Such visual insights sparked a cult fascination amongst the British for Indian design and architecture. Our design is a magnificent scene of exploration and includes a fascinating record of Indian landscapes, wildlife and architecture: with Howdah backed and cloth capped Elephants ferrying people amidst palm forests and flowing rivers.
