Foundations of North America

Special Colourway on scenic paper

– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –

The inspiration for this original design by de Gournay came from the wonderful 2002 Tate Britain exhibition “The American Sublime” which gathered together some of the finest 19th Century American landscape paintings by Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Cole and their ilk. The animals within the scenic have been borrowed from John James Audubon’s 1846 work, the amazingly detailed ‘Quadrupeds of North America’.
