Macchia
Special colourway on Almost Mauve dyed silk
– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –
Hand-gilded ribbons and simple shapes appear to glow against a Black dyed silk ground in this bold and striking abstraction. Named for the Italian word for ‘spot’ or ‘stain’, Macchia has been associated since the Renaissance with a sketchy way of applying the first colour to a drawing or painting. Some of the gilded forms in this large-scale design have been antiqued to create the look of tarnished bronze.
