Views of Italy

Crépuscule on scenic paper

– ABOUT THIS DESIGN –

Views of Italy is a reproduction of a mural first published by Dufour, Paris, circa 1820. Although the actual designer is unknown, for the most part, the views are so similar as to be almost certainly borrowed from those exhibited in 1791 by the artist Constant Bourgeois while the figures were probably by Vernet. Amongst the well-known landmarks featured are the Bay of Naples with Mount Vesuvius smoking ominously in the background, the Tivoli waterfalls and the Ponte Rotto.
